The most common skin condition across all genders and age groups is acne. We don’t even have to tell you about all the problems that come with it because we all know and are aware, and most of us have experienced these breakouts, some more intense than others.
However, to break it down a little, let’s identify and define what acne is and analyze the possible causes.
Acne is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that creates pimples and spots on the face, shoulders, back, neck, chest, and upper arms, among other places. When pores become clogged, acne develops. What clogs your pores determines the sort of acne you create. Here are some possible reasons you may be experiencing breakouts:
- It’s the hormones
Various reasons cause acne, but the most common is increased androgen levels. Androgen is a hormone whose levels increase as adolescence progresses. It is turned into estrogen in women.
The oil glands beneath the skin expand when androgen levels rise. The larger gland produces more sebum. Excess sebum can cause bacteria to grow by breaking down cellular membranes in the pores. As we all know, excess sebum causes oilier skin, leading to pimples and spots.
- Your diet
Extensive research has suggested that the kind of food you eat also affects your skin. Indulging in carbohydrate-rich food like bread, chips, and other manufactured products may worsen acne. What you need is a nutritious diet balanced with all the necessary food groups.
If the acne you are experiencing is sudden and without any plausible cause, you may want to look at the medication you are or have been taking. Certain drugs containing corticosteroids, testosterone, or lithium may be why your skin isn’t in its prime condition. You could try getting a different prescription or consult with a dermatologist regarding what you can do to balance out these drugs.
- Skincare (or lack of!)
If you’re not taking care of your skin, sooner or later, you will experience the consequences. Skincare doesn’t mean over-the-top routines and expensive products; no, it’s the bare minimum. You only need a simple regime - cleanse, moisturize, and apply SPF. That’s all it takes to shield your skin from the pollutants and extremities of the harsh environment!.
Acne is no joke - and the healing process is slow, frustrating, and can seriously test your patience. Don’t pop any zits, and don’t apply any products without making sure of their credibility. But as the saying goes, precaution is better than cure, so take care of your skin, eat and sleep well, and give it the nourishment it deserves!
